Bangalore girl tops South in CBSE Xth Exam

Mathematics, Social Studies and Sanskrit — 100 in each subject. Dream marks in any board exam. For Aparna Muralidhar, the dream has come true. This student from Kendriya Vidyalaya, ASC Centre here topped the southern region in CBSE Class X, securing 99% marks ( 495/500).

CBSE Xth South Topper

Monday morning was unusual for this chirpy teenager. After checking her results on the internet, she ran to her school to check it again. “I felt on top of the world when I saw my results. At school, I came to know that I was the topper,” an exhilarated Aparna told.

Her mother, Jyothi Muralidhar, a Maths teacher at KV (ASC) is undergoing a training course in Mysore. “I couldn’t contain my joy. I called her and told her my marks. She was so thrilled,” Aparna said.

It was not all work and no play for her. “I started studying from April last year. But I did not study for 24 hours at a stretch. I studied for about two hours, watched TV or went out and played and then got back to studies,” she said.

There was euphoria at Aparna’s Banashankari home on Monday. Suddenly, she’s a celebrity with almost all media channels making a beeline to her house. Aparna’s father, Muralidhar B R, a consultant engineer, was overjoyed when he heard his daughter had topped the southern region.

“We did expect her to do well, but not this well. She worked hard but never cut herself off from TV or anything like that. I am very happy and proud,” he said.

Her school too is thrilled. Said principal E Ananthan, “We expected 96-97% from her as she is a brilliant and hardworking student. After her English exam, she was upset that she hadn’t done so well. We comforted her saying you don’t know how you have actually done. She has scored 96/100 in English.” Aparna is also active in cultural and other extra-curricular activities in school. But studies are her first priority.

What next for this topper? “I don’t know,” she says, adding, “I’m not very sure, I’ll try for both engineering and medicine. I’ll decide only after my Class 12,” she said.
